Help Motions make a difference

This year, we partnered with another organization, BasBlue, which contributed volunteers, food, shoppers, packers, and their facility for storage, packing, and meal distribution. The planning and execution with BasBlue made this year’s effort a success. Thank you!

How We Made a Difference

• We delivered complete meal boxes containing meat (turkey, chicken, or cornish hens), traditional Thanksgiving sides to be prepared (mac and cheese, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, veggies, desserts, drinks, etc.) to 102 families, meeting our goal (up from 75 in 2023).

• We distributed over 2600 food items valued at over $11,000.• We cooked multiple turkeys for families who did not have the capacity to do so and we cooked an entire thanksgiving meal for a large family living in a hotel room at Red Roof Inn.

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and took some time to reflect on all that you are grateful for. I am thankful to be in a position to help organize a Thanksgiving project with many of you, delivering over 40 Thanksgiving meals/boxes to those in need. We received numerous donations, enabling us to exceed our goal and deliver to 42 families. Here is a summary of the project and the accomplishments we achieved together.

How We Made a Difference

•  We supported a total of 42 families with your generous food and cash donations.  
• 32 families received a turkey, multiple sides (fresh, boxed, and canned) and other bare necessities (milk, bread, eggs,) 
• 10 families received a fully cooked Thanksgiving meal. 
• We cooked 4 turkeys for families identified that did not have the ability to cook turkeys themselves.  
• We distributed 855 items. 
• We collected $2,000 in cash donations and used some of this to complete the boxes
• Volunteers spent hours packing and decorating boxes and delivering 
• All deliveries were made Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you for your generous donations of food and cash to the Thanksgiving project. Thank you for helping with multiple shopping trips, for advice on where to shop for quality and low prices, for packing boxes, for volunteering to drive, for decorating Thanksgiving boxes with pictures and inspirational writings, and for kind words and well wishes. We received so many donations that we were able to DOUBLE some of the food items we originally planned for families. 

Much like you, we are most grateful this holiday season to be in a position to help others.  Together, we made a difference. I’m happy to report that one of the families has secured more permanent housing since we last checked in.

How We Made a Difference

• We supported a total of 25 families with your generous food and cash donations (11 families in Detroit through  Church partnerships, and 14 through the homeless liaison of Farmington Public Schools
• We distributed 728 items valued at $2,417.03.  
• We collected nearly $1,000 in cash donations and used some of this to complete the Thanksgiving boxes. 
• We have $500.00 remaining which was donated to CARES and Operation Common Good today.  
• All deliveries were completed Monday and Tuesday. 
• A group of REMARKABLE teens spent hours organizing and coordinating this effort, packing and decorating boxes as well as leading the logistics.
